Our tour begins outside of the 113 year old Denver and Rio Grande Westtrain depot. Constructed in 1887, the Depot served Colorado Springs withpassenger train service until 1971 when the last passenger train left ColoradoSprings. One of the most famous engines from the steam era, Engine 168,now sits outside the Depot for everyone to view and enjoy. Inside the Depot,the original floor has been polished smooth by the millions of passengerswho passed through its solid oak doors. Ticket sales would often reach $30,000per day making the $16,000 cost of construction for the Depot a veritablebargain. Outside Giuseppe's stand the original gas streetlights from ColoradoSprings and today, freight trains still roll past the Depot regularly; Giuseppe'sis rich with history, memorabilia, and excitement. Inside the waiting area,an automated computer system keeps you informed of the waiting time, dailyspecials, and the location of reservations for the day, as well as interestingfacts and trivia about Colorado Springs, the D&RGW Depot, and Giuseppe's!
